How lucky am I? I spent the morning with a group of teacher librarians! It is such a privilege to work with people who know and love text. Our students live in a world where they are bombarded by visual images 24/7: images designed to inform as well as to persuade. As educators we can provide students with the knowledge to unpack the purpose of an image either to add to the layers of meaning in a text or so they can see how the persuasive message has been constructed. It is a key area of learning and teacher librarians support the whole school in this endeavour. In the resources section, I have added a list of the titles that I use when working with teachers to look at the language of visual literacy. It is a starting point only but if you want to take a look click here.
