Description

Guided reading is an essential part of an effective reading program.  Different approaches for students in different grades will be outlined. The routines and key elements of guided reading will be addressed. The research basis for this course is the work of Alan Luke and Peter Freebody (A map of possible practices. Further notes on the Four Resources model in Practically Primary, Vol 2, No 2 pp5-8, 1999). The Four literacy Resources provide an understandable model that examines the complexity of learning to read. The four cornerstones of quality literacy teaching: balanced, integrated, explicit and systematic come from the 2005 National Inquiry into the teaching of literacy. (Louden et al, ‘In teacher’s hands: Effective literacy teaching practices in the early years of schooling, Monitoring Learning, 2005)

This course is the second in the series Teaching reading. All courses stand alone and can be completed separately.
