Our action research project has shown that many students think reading is only about decoding or behaviours like sitting still, rather than about making sense and understanding what you read. This misconception may account for their lack of comprehension as they read. ( There is a longer version of this study on the web site under case studies) We designed this poster and have been using it as a reference in classrooms. The poster reminds students that effective readers THINK about what they are reading and that discussion with other readers develops understanding of what has been read. If this poster is useful go to our resource page and download it for free.
