Poetry comes in many shapes and formats. This course explores some of the particular forms of poetry mentioned in the NSW English Syllabus K-6. These include rhymes and chants, ballads, odes, limericks and free verse. Participants will be introduced to some of the features of these forms of poems and a some ways to include them in English will be discussed. This is the second course in the series, Poetry is fun. Each course can be completed independently.The rationale for this course comes from the work of writers like Libby Hathorn and Libby Gleason who encourage students to read widely and play with language. The references in the course come from the Australian Curriculum and the NSW English syllabus K-6.

The Target Audience

This course has been designed for primary teachers teaching students from kindergarten to year six.

  • Gain ideas for introducing different forms of poetry to students
