Chinese New Year

As the end of holidays looms and all teachers start to think about lesson plans, TRIO has a great way to start the year!

Did you know that Chinese New Year in 2014 starts on January 31st this year? Chinese New Year is celebrated in Chinese communities around the world. There are large Chinese communities outside of China e.g. Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam and Malaysia. The Dragon dance and Lion dance are traditional Chinese performance dances. They are performed as part of the New Year celebrations and are performed to bring good luck, long life and wisdom.

We have just added three lessons to our resources section, on Chinese New Year with a focus on` the lion and dragon dances.  These Cultural perspectives lessons have been written by an amazing ESL teacher who writes clear lesson plans that have students excited about learning. What a perfect way to start the the year with your new class. Click resources to go straight to this unit.
